Obituary for Cyril "Cy" Grosserhode

Memorial services for Cy Grosserhode age 92 of Dodge, NE will be held on Friday, January 26, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heath Catholic Church-Olean, rural Dodge, NE, with Fr. An Du Phan as celebrant. Military honors will be conducted following mass with a luncheon to follow at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church Parish Hall in Dodge. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Olean, with the rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is handling the arrangements for the family. The family suggests that memorials be directed to Sacred Heart Cemetery-Olean or the Dodge Veterans Memorial.

Cy passed away on Friday, January 19, 2018 at the Parkview Home in Dodge, NE.

Cy (Cyril) J. Grosserhode was born on April 20, 1925 to Henry and Anna (Peitzmeier) Grosserhode. He received his catholic education at Sacred Heart Academy, Olean and Dodge Public High School, graduating in May of 1943.

In October of 1943, he entered the U.S. Navy, training at Farragut, ID, Shoemaker, CA, and San Pedro, CA as a Mobile Communications Operator. He served in the Asiatic Pacific with the Seventh Fleet aboard many troop and carrier ships, being aboard the USS Missouri at the signing of the peace treaty between the United States and Japan in 1945. Cy was honorably discharged in May of 1946.

On June 8, 1948, Cy married Alda Rhode at Sacred Heart Church, Olean. Cy was a lifetime member of the Sacred Heart Parish.

Returning from the service, Cy worked for his father for several years. Upon his father’s retirement, Cy and his brother Elmer, continued the business of Grosserhode Transfer for forty years. Cy also fed cattle and was a livestock buyer.

Cy was a member of the American Legion Post #155, Howells, Last Man’s Club WWII, Howells, and a lifetime member of VFW Post #8507, Dodge, where he served as commander in 1968-1969.

Survivors include- his Wife, Alda, Daughters: Lynn (Randall) Kurtz, Dallas, TX, Karen (Joe) Danko, Dallas, TX, Lori (Ronald) Ray, Sache, TX, Sons: Gary (Fiance, Lynn Mandel), Dodge, Roy, Dodge.

Grandchildren: Jayme Danko, Omaha, Melissa (Dr. Abe) Schumacher, Omaha, Ashley Grosserhode, Chicago, Kelsey (Sam) Fernando, Wheat Ridge, CO, Marisa Kurtz, New York.

Great Grandchildren:Twins Knox & May Schumacher and Stefan Ray

Brother- Elmer (Linda) Grosserhode, Dodge and numerous nieces and nephews also survive him.

Those preceded Cy in death are: Parents, Henry & Anna Grosserhode, Son, Wayne, Brother, Norbert, Sisters and brothers-in-law: Ethel (Don) Laing, Sister Marie, SSSF, Delia (Elwood) Schukow, Jean (Lambert) Brester, and Nephew, Donnie Laing.
