Obituary for Evelyn C. Petersen

Evelyn C.  Petersen
Memorial Mass for Evelyn C. Petersen age 98 of Pilger, NE will be on Saturday, January 20, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wisner, NE with Fr. Joe Wray celebrating the mass with lunch following in the church basement. Interment will be in the Pilger Cemetery following lunch. Visitation will be on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner, NE is handling the arrangements for the family.

Evelyn passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at the Stanton Health Center.

Evelyn CeCelia (Meyer) Petersen was born on July 1, 1919 at Gregory, SD to Henry L. and Anna A. (Steiner) Meyer. In 1924, the family moved to Pilger, NE, where Evelyn attended Pilger Public Schools and graduated in 1937. She obtained her teaching certificate from Wayne State College. Evelyn taught at Stanton County Rural School District #50.

On October 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Clifford A. Petersen. The couple farmed south of Pilger and in 1982 moved into to home in Pilger.

Evelyn was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and of Stanton V.F.W. Auxiliary Post #4602. She was an avid bridge player, belonging to several bridge clubs, and also gave bridge lessons through what was then called Norfolk Community College. Evelyn was the Queen of the Pilger Q125 celebration and enjoyed spending time at the Pilger Senior Center. She also enjoyed bowling, was an avid reader, and was known for her baking.

Evelyn was fan of the Chicago Cubs, never missing an opportunity to listen or watch a game. On her 80th birthday, she attended a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, where she was recognized with her picture and name on the marquee banner inside the stadium. In 2016, she was named an honorary member of the Cubs organization.

Deana Fox of Casa Grande, AZ
Norma and Duane Meyer of Longmont, CO
5 Grandchildren 8 Great Grandchildren 1 Great-Great Grandchild

Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Clifford Petersen in November of 1999, grandson, son-in-law-Roger Fox, 2 sisters, and 3 brothers.
