Obituary for Dennis Kreikemeier

Dennis  Kreikemeier
Mass of Christian Burial for Dennis Kreikemeier age 91 of West Point, NE will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, NE with Fr. Steve Emanuel as celebrant. Burial will be in the St. Leo's Catholic Cemetery in Snyder, NE with Military Honors by VFW Post #8439. Visitation with the family present will be on Thursday from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church. There will be a public Vigil Service with a Knight of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point.

Dennis passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Dennis Bernard Kreikemeier was born on September 6, 1926 on a farm near Snyder, NE to Lawrence and Theresa (Wordekemper) Kreikemeier. He attended school in Snyder and graduated early from Snyder High School in April of 1945, when he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Dennis served in the 87th Infantry and was honorably discharged in December of 1946. Dennis returned to family farm.

On May 25, 1948, he was united in marriage to Doris Mendlik at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. The couple lived on a farm north of Snyder, where Dennis farmed and fed cattle until 1994, when they built a new home and moved to West Point, NE.

Dennis was a former member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Snyder, and was currently a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, NE. He was a 3rd Degree member of the Knights of Columbus, and a 70 year member of V.F.W. Post #8439 in Snyder, NE. Dennis served on the Snyder School Board and Snyder Coop Board. He coached youth baseball after playing baseball for many years. He enjoyed golfing and spending the winter in Arizona.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 68 years-Doris on November 13, 2016, son-Ralph on August 19, 1968, 3 great grandchildren, 2 brothers- Arthur and Leroy Kreikemeier, and a son-in-law Rich.
