Obituary for Dale Smith, Jr.

Mass for Dale D. Smith, Jr., age 66 of West Point, NE will be said on Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Retirement Community Chapel in West Point, NE by Monsignor Mel Wiese. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in West Point, NE. Minnick Funeral Home in West Point is handling the arrangements for the family.

Dale passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at St. Joseph's Retirement Community in West Point, NE.

Dale was born on February 14, 1951 in Omaha, NE to Dale and Bernice (Velasco) Smith.

Dale lived at the Mosaic Home for People with Disabilities in Omaha from 2005 until moving to St. Joseph’s Retirement Community in July of 2017. Dale was born prematurely, which resulted in a mental disability.

Dale had worked for Village Inn in Omaha for over 30 years, before retiring in 2015.

Dale was very social and friendly, he loved being around other people and visiting. He also loved teasing people and being teased in return, which was his attempt to be accepted and liked. He never had an unkind word to say about anyone.

Dale loved Nebraska Football and wrestling. He was very proud of his lifetime 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council #11600 membership and was a 4th Degree Member and Chalice Club member of Assembly #594 Fr. Michael P. Dowling in Omaha. He attended daily mass at St. Joseph’s Retirement Community.

Survivors include-
Sisters- Judy (John) Hassler of Beemer, NE and Mary Patton of Defiance, IA
Niece-Sue Ann Gaster of Omaha, NE
Nephew-David (Kara) Gaster and their children- Gwen and Anna of Norfolk, NE
Loving cousins’-Phyllis and Richard Travers of Shawnee, KS.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents.
