Obituary for Karen Hunter

Memorial services for Karen Hunter age 79 of Wisner, NE will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Christ. Visitation will be on Friday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Saturday at the church from noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to the Wisner Care Center or United Methodist Committee on Relief.

Karen passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at the Wisner Care Center, it was Karen's wish to gift her body to the State of Nebraska Anatomical Board.

Karen Sue Hunter was born on May 6, 1938 in Stuart, NE to Glen and Bernice (Preston) Estes. She grew up in the Bassett area and graduated from Rock County High School in 1956. She attended Wayne State Teachers College and received her B.A. in Education.

On August 7, 1960, she was united in marriage to Lowell Hunter at the Bassett Methodist Church. The couple lived in St. Edward, NE, where Karen taught at Genoa High School for two years. In 1965, the family moved to Wisner, NE. In the early 1970’s, Karen was a substitute teacher before becoming the bookkeeper for the Activities Director and the Lunch Program at Wisner-Pilger High School until retiring in 2000.

Karen was a member of the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner, had served as the chairperson for the United Church Women, and also had served as Mission Secretary for the Nebraska United Church of Christ.

Karen loved spending time with family, especially the summer vacations that were planned around visiting family. She also enjoyed gardening, watching birds, tending to her flowers, reading, and also took great interest in being informed.

Husband- Lowell Hunter of Wisner, NE
Children-
Kurtis and Kathy Hunter of Minneapolis, MN
Anne and Reed Olson of Sierra Vista, AZ

Sister-in-law- Barb Estes of Kearney, NE

Karen is also survived by four of Lowell’s siblings and their thirteen nieces and nephews.

Karen is preceeded in death by her parents and brother, Kent Estes.
