Audrey Mae (Thorman) Dorau was born on June 2, 1926 at Wisner, NE to George and Margaret (Jones) Thorman. She attended Cuming Co. Rural School District #17 and graduated from Wisner High School in 1943. After receiving her normal training, she taught at Cuming Co. Rural School Districts #66 and #17 prior to her marriage.

On June 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Calvin “Cal” Dorau at the Congregational Church in Wisner, NE. The couple farmed south of Wisner. Audrey also did bookkeeping for Wisner Livestock, worked at the Gamble’s Store with her husband and was instrumental in starting the Farmers Market in Wisner.

In 1981, they moved to Fremont. Audrey cooked for Wee Generation Daycare for 15 years and also helped Cal deliver the Fremont Tribune for 20 years. She and Cal enjoyed taking long weekend trips during this time. After Cal passed away in 2009, she moved to West Point, NE.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner, its United Church Women, and had sung in the choir. She was a former Cub Scout Leader. She enjoyed cooking, baking, canning, sewing, and had made each of her daughter’s wedding dresses, playing cards, and in her 80’s started painting.
