Funeral services for Orville Heller age 90 of Norfolk, NE will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time, all at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Interment with military honors will be in the Pilger Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to the Stanton Health Center-Organ Fund or Faith Regional Health Services Hospice Program. Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner is handling the arrangements for the family.

Orville passed away on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE.

Orville Ernest Heller was born on May 20, 1927 in Stanton Co., NE to Ernest and Mathilda (Maas) Heller. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Orville attended Stanton Co. Rural School District #46. He helped his father on the family farm and also worked as a carpenter for John Jensen. Orville served in the U.S. Army from January 23, 1951 to December 31, 1952 during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged he returned to the family farm.

On August 3, 1960, he was united in marriage to Alvina Robinson at the Congregational Church in Norfolk, NE. The couple resided on the family farm, where Orville also did custom farming. In 1994, the couple moved to Norfolk. Orville worked for the Farmers Coop in Pilger until retiring in 2004.

Orville loved farming, watching Husker football and music. The couple played in the Hazben Polka Band in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Orville also played with Otto Field and Milan Frerichs, and later with Artie Schmidt entertaining at area nursing homes. Alvina and Orville enjoyed going to dances, attending Ag Tours and traveling to farm shows. Orville liked listening and watching the Big Joe Polka Show.

Orville was a member of Christ the Servant Lutheran Church in Norfolk, Norfolk American Legion Post #16, and Norfolk Winter-Munson VFW Post #1644. He had served on the Stanton Co. Veterans Board for 36 years.

Sisters- Delores Schoenrock of Fayetteville, TN
Joan Holmes of Sacramento, CA
Sister-in-law-Joyce Heller of Stanton, NE

Orville was preceded in death by his parents, brothers-Alvin, Duane and Don Heller, and sister-Helen Carroll.
