Obituary for Ida Maria Schulz

Ida Maria Schulz
Ida Maria Schulz
April 4, 1930 – April 25, 2017

Ida Maria Schulz was born in Dallas, TX and attended Forrest High School and SMU. Ida was a talented musician and singer. This gift was recognized at an early age and as a child she was often asked to sing for school events and around the city. Ida’s gift of singing was also shared at weddings, funerals and civic events. Ida was a 50+ year member of SPJST Lodge 84 and sang the National Anthem at the annual Heritage Day at the State Fair for over 20 years. Ida was the Choral Director for the musical production “Sweet Flower Mound Land”, which was performed for many years in Flower Mound and at the 1976 Bicentennial Celebration in San Antonio, TX. Ida was a member of the Dallas Frohsinn Singing Society for more than 20 years and during that time served several terms as President.

Ida worked as a Church Choral Director, Organist and Church Secretary for over 50 years. Places of employment included Trinity Lutheran Church, Hope Lutheran Church and St. John’s Presbyterian Church in Oak Cliff.

A loyal Texas Rangers fan, she lived for ball season and was a season ticket holder for more than 20 years. Ida kept score by hand for the fast-pitch softballs games where her husband pitched and her son played, and for all the Ranger games she attended or watched on television.

Ida loved entertaining and when events were organized for family and friends the doors and her heart were always open. We were never sure how many people had been invited or how many chairs to set up. Ida was always the life of the party, the teller of stories and the family history keeper.

Ida is survived by her husband of 57 years, Lionel Schulz; sons Mark Bartos and his children Alexander and wife Holly, Luke and Francesca; Michael Schulz and his wife Lisa and their sons Nathan and Aaron; daughter-in-law Betty Bartos, her daughter Jessica Good and husband Brian and their sons Austin and Coen; brother Joe Armbruster; cousin JoAnn Pokladnik and her husband Dave, numerous nieces, nephews and family members; dearest friend of 80+ years Doris “Dolly” Cook; dear friends Joe and Vreni Meier and many, many additional friends. Ida was preceded in death by her parents Ernest and Ida Armbruster, son Paul Bartos, daughter Sandra Schulz and grandson Justin Bartos.

Memorial Service was held at St. Paul’s Church April 29th.
