Verna J. Rabe, 84, of Wisner, NE died on Thursday, April 20, 2017 at the Wiser Care Center in Wisner, NE. Funeral services for Verna will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner; Pastor James P. Carretto will be officiating. The visitation will be held on Monday, April 24, 2017 from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner, NE. Burial will be in the Beemer Cemetery in Beemer, NE. Memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
Verna was born on September 21, 1932 on her family’s farm near Wisner, NE. She attended and graduated from Wisner High School in 1949. For many years she worked at First National Bank before working at Citizen’s Bank. For the past several years she worked at Schaulis and Heftie Veterinary Clinic, later Wisner Countryside Veterinary Clinic in Wisner, Ne, before retiring in 2015. She loved baking cut out cookies with her granddaughters when they were young, and now her great grandchildren. Verna enjoyed taking walks with her dog, Sadie. In the summer she could usually be found outside working in her yard and attending to her flowers. It wasn't a birthday unless you had one of Verna's homemade chocolate Wicky Wacky Cakes. She loved getting together with her family for pizza and pasta.
She is survived by her son Jeff (Tami) Rabe of Wisner, NE, daughter-in-law Cory Rabe of Lincoln, NE, grandchildren; Tara (Dave) Taylor of Wisner, NE, Tasha (Matt) Breitbarth of Pender, NE, Tiffany Beckman of Wisner, NE, and Zac (Kali) Rabe of Lincoln, NE. She is also survived by her great grandchildren; Keah and Kyla Taylor, Nathan, Jaxen, Megan and Makenzie Breitbarth and Talan Beckman.
Verna was preceded in death by her parents; son John; grandson Joshua Sean Rabe; sister and brother-in-law Ella & Alvin Engelhardt, and sister Mabel Stalling.
