Obituary for Norbert Schlautman

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial for Norbert Schlautman age 92 of West Point, NE will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in West Point, NE. Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery at a later date. Military Honors will be conducted at the church following mass. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Minnick Funeral Home in West Point with a Vigil Service and Knights of Columbus Rosary to begin at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be directed to the GACC Endowment Fund. Norbert had chosen to donate his body to the State of Nebraska Anatomical Board to assist future medical students with their education.

Norbert passed away on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, NE.

Norbert Louis Schlautman was born north of Howells, NE on November 23, 1924 to John and Anna (Wolff) Schlautman. He received his education at Cuming Co. School District #75 and graduated from Guardian Angels High School in 1942. Norbert served in the United States Navy during World War II as an Aviation Machinists Mate Third Class.

On November 24, 1947, he was united in marriage to Camilla Hunke at St. Boniface Catholic Church-Monterey. Norbert was engaged in farming until his retirement in 1980. The couple moved to Cottonwood, AZ, where he was a member of the Elk’s organization. In 2004, Norbert suffered his first stroke and they returned to West Point in 2007.

Norbert was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post #70, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #4912, Knights of Columbus Council #2272, and Catholic Order of Foresters. He and Camilla enjoyed traveling and took many trips over seas. Norbert enjoyed watching all sports and completing crossword puzzles.

Norb is survived by his wife Camilla of West Point, brothers Vic and wife Irene of Council Bluffs, IA, Florin and wife Sally of Loveland, CO, Virgil of West Point, and Edwin and Lorraine of West Point; sisters in law-Marie Kampschneider of Dodge, Luetta Evert of West Point, Bernice Johnson of Enid, OK, and Lorraine Hunke of Ft. Collins, CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Wilma Wellman, brother Joe, sister in law Marlane Schlautman, and in laws-Elaine and Joel Aschoff, Leander Hunke, Alvin Hunke, Marvin Kampschneider, Eugene Evert, and Joe Johnson.
