Funeral services for Donald Claussen age 80 of West Point, NE will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beemer, NE. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from noon to 8:00 p.m., with the family present from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Don passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk, NE.

Donald Earl Claussen was born on September 11, 1936 in Dunlap, IA to Emil and Elsie (Schnieder) Claussen. He was baptized at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point and confirmed as an adult at his home in West Point on April 7, 2007 by Rev. Roger Schepmann. Don attended rural school near Carroll, NE and Carroll High School. He worked on the family farm until being called to serve his country. Don served in the U.S. Navy from 1954 to 1957. On April 4, 1957, he was united in marriage to Sandra Boldan in Wayne, NE. The couple lived in California until Don was honorably discharged from the Navy. The returned to farm south of Wayne, NE and later moved to West Point, NE. In 1973, they moved to Linn, MO, where Don did custom farm work and also drove truck. In 1986, they returned to West Point.

Don was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Beemer, NE. He enjoyed making toys, helping his children and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Don was a friend to everyone he met.
