Funeral services for Joyce A. Giese age 80 of Beemer, NE will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE. Beemer American Legion Auxiliary Post #159 will conduct their memorial service at church on Wednesday at the church at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the Beemer Cemetery with a luncheon to follow at the Beemer American Legion Hall. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at St. John's Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE. Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer is handling the arrangements for the family.

Joyce passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Joyce Anne (Kai) Giese was born on May 24, 1936 at rural Wakefield, NE to Arthur Detlef Kai and Florence Esther (Cook) Kai. She was baptized on September 9, 1936 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Emerson, NE and later confirmed as an adult on August 4, 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Wakefield, NE. Joyce attended Pender High School. While in high school she worked in the family’s café in Pender.

On November 29, 1953, she was united in marriage to LeRoy A. Giese at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Wakefield. The couple farmed southwest of Pender, and Joyce worked at Carl’s Café in Pender. In 1965, the family moved briefly to Central City and in 1966, moved to Beemer. In Beemer, Joyce worked at Delmont’s Café and Bob’s Market in Beemer. She later worked at Wimmers Meat Products in West Point for 20 years, before retiring. After retiring she worked for several years in the lunchroom at the Beemer School.

Joyce was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church and served as treasurer of the Sunday School, and was a member of Beemer American Legion Auxiliary Post #159. She was a former member of the Beemer Fireman’s Auxiliary, was a former Cub Scout Den Mother, and had served as a 4-H Leader for many years. Joyce also was a Grandma to a host of kids in Beemer, besides her own grandchildren.
