Dale Dean Moeller was born to Henry and Emma (Matthes) Moeller on June 27, 1934 at the old Beemer Hospital in Beemer, Nebraska. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, and grew up on the Matthes family farm on the Rock Creek. Dale attended school at Zion Elementary as well as School District #35 before graduating from Wisner High School in 1952. As a youth, Dale was a stellar baseball player as a pitcher and third baseman, and his love of baseball and softball carried over into a long career as an umpire for area Legion and town team baseball games. After serving in the Army in occupied Germany, Dale married Helen Blumer in 1958 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Wisner, and began farming for Harry Pumphrey, raising his family on the Pumphrey farm west of Wisner, before moving his family to Wisner in 1974 when he began working full time for the Wartig Veterinary Clinic, where he worked for over twenty years.

Dale was an active member of the Wisner community, first as a lifelong member of the Wisner VFW, in which he was proud of his service at military funerals and in presenting the colors at Wisner-Pilger football games. Dale also was a key factor in the reestablishment of the Wisner Izaak Walton League and the development of the Wisner Ikes grounds southeast of Wisner. In addition, Dale was a longtime usher at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and served one term as church president. Because of his love of the outdoors and hunting, Dale was also a respected hunter’s safety course instructor for over forty years, teaching hundreds of local students before retiring. Also, “the Guvner” was a longtime bartender, serving at the Wisner VFW Club and the Huddle Bar for many years. Dad’s last honor was being named “Citizen of the Year” by the Wisner Lion’s Club in 2015.

Dale’s full life ended January 2, 2017 at the Wisner Care Center.

Dale is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Helen Moeller of Wisner:

Four children: Sher (Moeller) Canada of Naples, Florida;
Linda (Moeller) Rivieccio and her husband Ron of Charlotte, North Carolina;
Gregg Moeller and his wife Michelle of Wisner;
Mike Moeller and his wife Kari of Beemer;

And four grandchildren—Dominic and Gianna Rivieccio, and Elizabeth and Paige Moeller.

And two sisters-in-law: Fernie Moeller of Beemer, and Gloria Moeller of Wisner, and eight nieces and nephews.
