Funeral services for Verlin Wendt age 92 of Wisner, NE will be held on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. Interment will be in the Wisner Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Verlin passed away on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Pender Community Hospital in Pender, NE.

Verlin Edward Heinrich Wendt was born on September 13, 1924 on the family farm south of Wisner, NE to Otto and Ida (Schlueter) Wendt. He was baptized on October 12, 1924 and later confirmed on April 10, 1938 at Zion Lutheran Church, rural Wisner, NE. Verlin attended Cuming Co. Rural School District #56 and graduated from Wisner High School in 1941. He worked for Stigge Machine & Supply Co. in West Point after high school.

On May 19, 1946, he was united in marriage to Caroline Goetze at the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, NE. Verlin continued to work at Stigge Machine for a couple of years and then began farming south of Wisner, NE.

While a member at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Pilger, he served on the church council, was a Lay Minister and taught adult bible class. Verlin served as president of the school board of Cuming Co. Rural School District #75 for 18 years, served on the State Board of Directors of the Izaak Walton League of America, was secretary of the Synodical Lutheran Brotherhood for the Midwest Synod. He was currently a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Wisner.

Verlin enjoyed running Kiddie Pedal Tractor Pulls for many years, collecting toy tractors, playing cards, playing softball and doing family history. He loved music and sang in church and community choirs.

His wife of 70 years, Caroline Wendt of Wisner, NE
Son-Delayne Wendt and wife Sherrie Spilde of Lincoln, NE
Daughter- Corinne and husband Jay Jacox of Lincoln, NE
Daughter- Gayleen and husband Eugene Weber of Wisner, NE
Grandson- Austen and wife Renae Jacox of Lincoln, NE

Verlin was preceded in death by his parents, one brother-Harvey Wendt, and three sisters-Adela Wendt, Ethel Bremer Miller, and Elna Stuthman.
