Mass of Christian Burial for Edward Uher age 97 of Dodge, NE will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge, NE. Interment will be in the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Dodge. There will be a Vigil Service on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at the church. Minnick Funeral Chapel in Dodge is handling the arrangements for the family.

Ed passed away on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Parkview Home in Dodge, NE.

Edward William Uher was born on January 10, 1919 at Dodge, NE to V.R. and Anna (Bazata) Uher. He attended Colfax Co. Rural School District #37. Ed helped his father on the family farm. He served in the United States Army from 1942 to 1945. He was a member of the 803rd Tank Destroyer Battalion that was involved in the Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central European campaigns. Ed was awarded the Purple Heart, one Bronze Star, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, and World War II Service Medal. After being honorably discharged he returned to Howells, NE.

On January 15, 1946, he was united in marriage to Marie Mestl at St. Mary’s Catholic Church-Tabor, rural Howells, NE. The couple farmed in Colfax County for 18 years. Ed and Marie moved to Dodge and purchased the Merry Martini Lounge and operated it for 18 years before retiring. After retiring, Ed and Marie traveled extensively.

Ed was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, a very active member of Dodge American Legion Post #122, Dodge Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8597, and the 40 & 8 Post #1018. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish.

Daughter-Mary Kay and husband Richard Arkfeld of Panama, IA
Daughter-Sheri Uher of Surprise, AZ
Grandchildren-Michael and Kelly Arkfeld and sons-Ben and Nick
Katy and Todd Blue and children-Bradley and Brooke

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, daughter-Constance Marie Adams, sister-Helen Marik, and brothers-Raymond and Lumir Uher.
