Funeral services for Reinold Munderloh of rural Bancroft, NE will be on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church-rural Bancroft, NE. Interment will be in the church cemetery with Military Honors. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Reinold Hermann Munderloh, age 91, went home to be with his Lord on November 4, 2016. He was born on April 28, 1925, to Edward and Anna Groth Munderloh on the farm southwest of Bancroft, Nebraska. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith by Rev. William Harms on May 24, 1925. He attended the Zion Lutheran parochial school and was confirmed in his faith in 1939 at Zion.
Reinold was drafted into the U.S. Army on June 8, 1945, and attended boot camp in Tyler, Texas. He served in the occupation of Italy, first as a guard in Naples and later as a cook. During his time in Italy, he was able to visit Venice, the Blue Grotto on the Isle of Capri, and the ruins of Pompeii and the coliseum in Rome. He was also in Switzerland and Austria. He was honorably discharged from the Army on February 3, 1947, and came back home to the farm.
He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, serving at various times as head usher, trustee and elder. He was a life-time member of American Legion Post #191, Bancroft. In 2011, he was recognized for his 60 years of membership in the Post. He enjoyed bowling on the church team and playing volleyball with the young people’s group of the church.
Farming was the center of his life. He farmed the “home place”, raised cattle and hogs and had a dairy herd. In his early days on the farm, horses provided the power and corn was picked by hand. In 2015, he was honored to receive the Nebraska Pioneer Farm Award, recognizing 100 years of ownership by the same family. He enjoyed nothing more than being outside on the tractor, skid-loader or the lawn mower.
On October 28, 1982, he married Kathie Jaspersen at Grace Lutheran Church in West Point. They recently celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary.
Reinold was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Arthur, Clarence and Melvin; sisters-in-law Marillyn and Herta Munderloh; nieces Genevera Munderloh and Beth Prazak; nephew Michael Kardell and great-nephew Daniel Munderloh.
He is survived by his wife, Kathie; sister Darlene (Robert) Kardell of Omaha; brother Donald (Lois Ann) Munderloh of Scribner; sisters-in-law Susan (John) Jacobson of Annapolis, Maryland and Nancy (Stan) Rochlitz of Paxton, Nebraska and many nephews and nieces.
