Obituary for Bert "Skip" Fehliman

Bert "Skip" Fehliman
Memorial services for Skip Fehliman age 70 of Tucson, AZ formerly of Beemer, NE will be held on Sunday, October 16th at 2:30 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church in Beemer, NE, with military honors immediately following the service.
Bert Franklin Fehliman, “Skip” to those who knew him, died peacefully in the Tucson, AZ VA Hospital on September 24, 2016 at the age of 70. He finally succumbed to his courageous 5 year battle against cancer.
Skip is survived by his wife, Lynne Fehliman (Tucson, AZ); son, Brandon Fehliman (Stanwood, WA); sisters Rosemary Raasch (Beemer, NE) and Karen Guarino (Fremont, NE). Skip also leaves behind a daughter-in-law, Angie Fehliman (Stanwood, WA), a step-daughter, Heather Ranucci (Marlton, NJ), and 2 grandchildren, Kayla and Stephen, from Heather, and mother-in-law Lydie Collins (Clayton, NJ). He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Wilma (Taylor) Fehliman (Beemer, NE) and an infant brother, David Fehliman.
Skip was born June 18th, 1946 in Beemer, NE to Clyde and Wilma. He started school in Beemer, NE but graduated from Mapleton, IA. He continued his education at both Wayne State College and Northeast Community College earning a Bachelors Degree as a history major. He achieved the rank of Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1964-1968 while serving one tour in Vietnam and received multiple military merits. His Marine Corps days were something he proudly carried with him the rest of his life. His military career continued years later at an Army Reserve unit in Fremont, NE for 3 1/2 years.
Skip was married to Jane Bennett in 1970 giving them their son, Brandon. In May of 1997 he married Lynne Collins and has been with her until the day of his passing. He spent most of his life living in various parts of NE and IA but eventually settled in Tucson, AZ in 2003 where he and Lynne created a beautiful home.
Most of Skip’s work history was in retail, restaurant management or insurance sales, all of which highlighted his wonderful people skills and charisma, which his customers always enjoyed.
Skip had an infectious sense of humor, a giant heart of selfless character that made him a dear friend to so many people. Skip was an active member of his Marine Corps League, Desert Hope Lutheran Church, and a local choir; volunteering often to support charitable causes, fund raisers and get-togethers. A round of golf, classic cars, big band and oldies rock-n-roll music, a good cigar or time spent with loved ones always made Skip smile. And it was effortless for him to make those around him smile back.
