Interment will be at a later date as it was Warren’s wish to donate his body to the State of Nebraska Anatomical Board.

Warren passed away from complications of Multiple Sclerosis on Monday, June 29, 2015 at the Providence Medical Center in Wayne, Nebraska. He was a life-long resident of rural Wisner and resided at the Wisner Care Center for the past 11 years, where he was lovingly cared for. He raised hogs and Black Angus cows and calves and was engaged in farming until the mid-1980s when he became disabled and could no longer actively farm.

Warren Raymond Johnson was born on December 6, 1935 in Wisner, Nebraska to Andrew Raymond and Emma (Nuernberger) Johnson. He was baptized and confirmed at the Congregational Church in Wisner. Warren attended Cuming County Rural School District #17, and graduated from Wisner High School in 1953. On June 26, 1960, he was united in marriage to LaVonne Echtenkamp at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Wakefield. They were married for 55 years. He served in the Nebraska National Guard for almost twelve years, from 1957 to 1968. He attended OCS School in Ashland, and was a First Lieutenant at the time of his discharge.

Warren was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, and served on the Church Council twice. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years, where he had served in many roles, including Worshipful Master. He was a member of the Wisner Rural Fire Board, served on the School District #17 school board for many years, and was an active member of the Cuming County Republican Party. He was also one of the founders of the Wisner Farmer’s Farrowing Coop.

Warren loved his family, his farm and the outdoors. He enjoyed bow deer hunting and fishing for many years. He loved to play chess, often winning against the computer, and played pitch, poker and sheephead with friends. He often serenaded his family by playing the guitar and harmonica.

Survivors include his wife LaVonne of Wisner, daughters-Lana and John Peta of Wellesley, MA, Venna and Glenn O’Brien of LaGrange, IL, and Stacy and Joe Waller of Ashburn, VA; his granddaughters-Caroline and Catherine Peta, Natalie O’Brien, and Hannah and Claire Waller; one brother-William and Allyson Johnson of The Woodlands, TX, and several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
