Obituary for Mary Cohee

Funeral services for Mary E. Cohee age 94 of Beemer, NE will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at the Beemer United Methodist Church. Interment will be in the Beemer Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in Beemer and will continue on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Mary passed away on Friday, August 23, 2013 at the Colonial Haven Nursing Home in Beemer, NE.

Mary Elaine Cohee was born April 21, 1919 on a farm in Platte County near Lindsey, NE to Fred and Emily (Peterson) Nelson. In 1932 her family moved to Beemer, NE. She graduated from Beemer Public Schools in 1937. On August 16, 1941 she married Vernon Cohee in Papillion, NE. She followed Vernon to Glendale, California where he worked at Lockheed Aircraft Corporation. Mary and Vernon returned to Nebraska in 1943 to help work the Cohee family farm. They lived on the farm until 1983 when they built a house and moved into Beemer. Mary and Vernon were married 60 years. After Vernon's death in 2001, she continued to live in their home until moving into Colonial Courts Assisted Living and in 2012 into Colonial Haven. She lived there until her death on August 23, 2013.

Along with helping on the farm and raising three children, Mary was busy with Model Homemakers project club, Eastern Star, Beemer United Methodist Women and other church committees. Mary was always an active member willing to work or lead.

She is survived by children Bill and Susie Cohee of West Point, Bob Cohee of Davenport, IA, and Marla and Marlin Brabec of Ames, NE.
Her grandchildren are Amy Hatfield, Thomas and Michelle Cohee, Mandy Cohee, Jim and Melissa Brabec, Becky and Ken Lowther, and Emily and Chad Marquis along with 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sister-in-law Eula Cohee and brother-in-law Neil Cohee.

Preceding her in death were daughter-in-law Judy Cohee; brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Jean Nelson, Gaylord and Virginia Nelson, Lorna Cohee, and Muriel and Hugo Schlueter; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella and Harry Jackson, Zoda and Carl Matison, Della and Allan Kennedy, Audrey and Duane Brown, Florence and Harold Nellor, Hazel and Willard Hasenkamp, Dorothy and Edgar Conrad, and John Cohee
