Obituary for Lucille "Lucy" Toelle

Funeral services for Lucille "Lucy" Toelle age 80 of West Point, NE will be held on Thursday, May 30, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., with a Vigil Service at 6:30 p.m., and will continue on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point. The family suggests that memorials be directed to St. Joseph's Retirement Community, 320 E. Decatur St., West Point, NE 68788.

Lucy passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the West Point Living Center.

Lucille Ann Toelle was born to Edward and Anna (Classen) Havranek on August 21, 1932 at Spencer, NE and was baptized on December 25, 1932. She graduated from Spencer High School at age 16 and boarded a train to West Point to find work and live with her Aunt and Uncle Mr. and Mrs. Del (Irene) Benne.

On October 24, 1952 she married Anton (Tony) J. Toelle, Jr. and were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Point, NE. They were married for 23 years prior to his passing. Lucy was employed in the Clerk’s Office for Cuming County. She was appointed as Clerk in 1967 and successfully ran for the Clerk’s position in 1970, which she held until her retirement in 1989.

She was an active member of the Vet’s Club, Fireman’s Auxiliary, West Point Sportsman’s Club and the American Violet Association.

Lucy loved nature, flowers and animals, especially her dachshund dogs named Peanuts. Her last 28 years were spent with her dear friend Art Schleusener traveling throughout the United States. Together they drove cars back from auctions for Paus Motors and Davis Family Auto.

Survivors include-Sister-in-law-Karen Havranek of Spencer, NE, Aunt Irene Benne of Springfield, OH, as well as many nieces, nephews, co-workers and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband-Anton (Tony), parents-Edward and Anna Havranek, brothers-Marvin, Alvin and Edward (Sonny), Jr., sisters-in-law- Betty, Virginia and Marie, and her uncle Del Benne.

Lucy will be remembered for her many acts of kindness to her neighbors and friends sharing baked goods, newspapers, magazines and especially her beautiful roses and violets.
