Obituary for Alfred J. Tschopp

Funeral services for Alfred J. Tschopp, Pastor EM, age 82 of West Point, NE will be on Friday, April 20, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Point, NE. Interment will be in the Linnwood Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, IA on Saturday, April 21st at 1:00 p.m. Visitation will be on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point, NE and will continue on Friday one hour prior to service time at the church.

Mr. Tschopp passed away on Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner, NE.
Alfred James Tschopp was born January 23, 1930 at Marengo, Iowa to Theodor and Selma (Kellenberger) Tschopp. He was baptized on February 23, 1930 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Marengo, IA and later confirmed on May 14, 1944 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids, IA. Alfred attended Trinity Lutheran School in Cedar Rapids and graduated from Wilson High School in 1948. He went on to attend Yuba College in Marysville, CA and California State University in Chico, CA. He married Kathryn Enright and she later passed away on July 30, 1967. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950-1970, retiring the rank of a Master Sergeant. He was ordained as a Lutheran Pastor on March 12, 1967. On December 26, 1968, he was united in marriage to Leah Gardner-Dwyer. Rev. Tschopp served congregations in Yuba City, CA; Midland, MI, Roseburg, OR; Chicago, IL; and Stockton, KS. He was installed as Pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church in West Point, NE on April 5, 1992. Pastor Tschopp served as Member of the Council, Lutheran Churches of the Reformation (LCR); LCR Missionary at Large, Chairman, LCR Commission on Publications, Editor of the LCR magazine One Accord, LCR Secretary for American Missions, and member of the LCR Commission on Missions.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Korean War Veterans Assoc., Air Force Sergeants Assoc., life member of The Retired Enlisted Assoc., and the 5th Communications Group Assoc. (Korea).
Survivors include-daughter- Diana Barry of Yuba City, CA and children- Melissa Nascinento and husband Tommy and children of Yuba City, and Christine Cahill of Yuba City; daughter-Patricia King of Cedar Rapids, IA; son-Timothy Tschopp and wife Betty of Northridge, CA; daughter-Patricia Clark and husband William of Matteson, IL and daughters- Jennifer and Roberta Clark; brothers- Oscar Tschopp of Sierra Madre, CA, and Paul Tschopp of Seymour, CT.
Pastor Tschopp was preceded in death by his parents, first spouse- Kathryn, second spouse-Leah on May 3, 1999, brothers-Theodore, Herbert and Erwin Tschopp, sister-Ruth Tschopp, and son-in-law-Harry King.
